Day 30

Image
It's coming, it's coming!!! Q&A Nightmare Before Christmas or Hocus Pocus     While I do enjoy Hocus Pocus, I will usually choose Nightmare Before Christmas just because it doesn't really age. I can enjoy it just as much now as I did when it first came out. Nightmare Before Christmas is always on my Halloween night tradition list to watch. It's a great introduction into the remaining holidays of the year. Movie Night Title Army of Darkness     One more final viewing before the big day. So much to do, so little time to do it. The day is arriving soon and I can't wait to show off how everything turned out. If you've been stalking my Insta then you have an idea of what's to come.

Day 29

Image
It's coming... Q&A Trick or Treat or Scary Movies     How is this one even a question? There is no choice. Both. Both is good. Honestly, both is true. Being the Halloween house in my teeny town, I always do the handing out of candy for Trick or Treaters. Every year the number of kids goes up as word gets around. Except for last year. Last year it snowed and things got delayed and it still ended up cold and rainy for Trick or Treat night. This year though, things could go either way. I haven't really seen any word come down about Trick or Treat yet so I'm still planning things as if they will be going forward. But, once Trick or Treat ends, it's upstairs for me for scary movies all night long. Movie Night Title Evil Dead 2     We're keeping the Evil Dead train rolling through. I guess because I still feel a little guilty that things didn't go as planned for the haunt. But there's always next season. Since it will be even bigger and of course, better.  ...

Day 28

Only a few more days Q&A Go to bed Early or Stay up Late     I used to be able to stay up late all the time. I was the picture image of a night owl, with midnight being my earliest bedtime. It seemed to work best as a writer, since my best inspiration and work came between midnight and three am. I am pretty sure I can thank NaNoWriMo for that schedule. It seems that now I have lost my ability to stay up late. I have to keep to a medication routine since I have a pet on insulin. I also am an early riser so sleep and coffee are my friends. Movie Night Title Evil Dead     This begins my traditional marathoning of everything Evil Dead. Starting with the movies and bingeing the tv show. There is never a year that I will miss this opportunity. Especially this year since my Evil Dead section of the haunt did not fully come to fruition. However, things worked out amazing as is and now I know what I want to do and buy/build for next year. Gotta start somewhere righ...

Day 27

Image
The end is nigh Q&A Favorite Costume as a Kid     I had two favorite costumes as a kid and I usually rotated them. I was Wonder Woman for a few years straight. This one has never changed, I was Wonder Woman again a couple years ago. My other pick was She-Ra. This was one of my all time favorites. Those two were in constant rotation as a kid. Now, as an adult, I try to rotate costumes each year being something new. I was Connor from Assassins Creed one year. Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, about three years ago. Yea... I'm sure you can see a theme emerging here.  Movie Night Title Shaun of the Dead      I adore British movies and you can not go wrong with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost working together. So of course this is going to end up on my list of favorites as well as a Halloween tradition. Zombie flicks are very hit or miss with me. There's only so many ways that you can play on the dead rising. Plus, I'm one of the weird ones who always wants to s...

Day 26

Image
It's within reach! Q&A Favorite Halloween Candy     I am all for candy and have a huge sweet tooth. I'm always worried every year when I buy candy for the kids, that it won't make it to Halloween. So candy is usually a last minute purchase. Either that or I end up with a ton of bags because I know I'm going to eat it. There's only one rule in my house about candy. Touch my Reese's Cups and we will have problems. I buy bags of them for myself to try and deter myself from eating the kids candy.  Movie Night Title Rocky Horror Picture Show     This is a tradition in my house. It's one that I watch every year. I absolutely love it. One year I will eventually bake lip shaped cookies for the event.     I actually have not baked this year, or in fact last year either. With my health being in the crapper last year, I wasn't up to it. This year, I was hoping to get to bake something but time has not been my friend. And now, with all the heavy wo...

Day 25

Image
We are under a week Almost there Q&A Carve Pumpkins or Make Pumpkin Pie     This is actually an easy question for me. I am not a big fan of pumpkin flavor so when I bake, it's usually cookies and cupcakes. However, I love carving pumpkins every year. The number that I will carve will depend on how I feel that particular year and how much other things I have to do. I try to carve as close to Halloween as I can, just to preserve the freshness of the pumpkins. I don't want them to wilt too much before the big night. This year I am carving two pumpkins. Mainly because I have been doing so much other work and building props. I have also not even begun to look for ideas as to what I will carving.  Movie Night Title Dreamcatcher      This pick is pretty much for the fact that I love Stephen King. I had started reading the book but got distracted with life and work. When I heard they were optioning the novel for the big screen, I had to finish it. So I b...

Day 24

Image
Omg check it out One week left!!! Q&A Picking Apples or Hay Ride     When it comes to fall activities, some things are easier to do depending on where you live. I've always preferred hay rides to apple picking. Mostly because apple picking always seemed like a chore. Haunted hay rides were the best. It was the element of not being able to stop and focus on something long enough to determine what or how something was. They were a deciding factor in what I wanted to do when I grew up. Movie Night Title Pan's Labyrinth     Yet again, we have a new one. I have actually never seen this. But I have been told (numerous times) that I absolutely need to see it. So I guess this one was picked for me.

Day 23

Image
It's ticking down Almost to a week left.! Q&A Corn Maze or Haunted Attraction     Well now, this one should be easy. I'll always be down for either but I love haunted attractions because there's always that excitement surrounding it. While I do not scare easily, it's still so much fun. I am always alert to what is around me and from that ability to quickly analyze the surroundings, I can pinpoint where the actors are going to be. With a corn maze it's straightforward but there's that feeling of anxiety about not knowing where you are and where you're going. That is one part that freaks me out is not being able to figure out how to go.  Movie Night Title  Scary Stories to tell in the Dark     Once again, I am getting into new material here. So, I don't really know what to expect but I'm sure it will be a good night.     It is definitely been a good run for the setup of the haunt though. Spider webbing is up with only a few more details l...

Day 22

Image
Holy cow Single digits now!! Q&A Favorite Horror TV Show     I have always been a fan of the genre television shows. From Tales from the Crypt, Masters of Horror, Night Gallery, and so on. But choosing a favorite in this one is pretty easy. The fact that I have always been an Evil Dead and Raimi brothers fan, I will always go for them bringing back Ashley J. Williams. So of course, Ash vs Evil Dead is always going to be number one. Movie Night Title Cabin in the Woods      This is one of my top films just because I adore Joss Whedon and well who doesn't love a bit of comedy, Evil Dead references, and a pinch of Lovecraft. This movie is one of the inspiration fuel for upcoming haunt plans. So I may never run outta ideas in the future.     So what is in store for the haunt this year. Well, the final purchase for the pumpkin display has been made. Pumpkins have been purchased. The spider webbing (hopefully) will be going up today as long as it behaves...

Day 21

Image
Can you believe how close we are now Q&A Worst Fear     Wow, where do we start with worst fear. I don't have the traditional fears, such as my mom is claustrophobic. My dad had a fear of heights. I used to have arachnophobia but that eventually evolved to an appreciation as long as they are not hanging out and chillin on me. I will actually freak out more over their webs than the actual spider. I can not stand the feeling of spider webs. I will scream, drop to the ground, and freeze. Usually all of those while crying frantically. But even at that, I don't consider it an actual fear for myself because I can push through eventually. I will take a stick and wave it all in front of me as I walk. I know the beauty in spider webs as a photographer who shoots spiders and their webs. Now don't get me wrong, I do have a few phobias. Telephobia, coulrophobia, ommetaphobia, and Enochlophobia. But my worst fear are mirrors. There's so many variations of this phobia that label...

Day 20

Image
Look at us now Q&A Ouija or Ghost Stories     This is an easy one. I will take ghost stories over a Ouija board every time. Something about those boards just creep me out. I get a funky vibe from them. I've been around and seen and heard creepy shit. So I'm not keen on opening a doorway to those creepy things. Movie Night Title  Thirtee n Ghosts  and 13 Ghosts      Now tonight is a double feature because these are one of my favorites. I absolutely adore the original movie but the remake works on it's own. Now I don't really consider this a full fledged remake. But you can't pass up the cast either. However, my favorite ghost will always be the lion and lion tamer. That is one thing the newer one can never get.

Day 19

Image
Rollin right along Q&A Favorite All Time Horror Movie     It's so hard to pick a single favorite anything, right? Especially when there's so many options and genres. Plus, it can change depending on my mood. But I suppose if there's one that no matter how I feel, it will always comfort me, I would choose Evil Dead 2. The second one specifically because of the comedic elements. Ted Raimi as Henrietta as well. That will always make me giggle. Movie Night Title Poltergeist      This is another new one for me. I grew up with the original set of movies and unfortunately didn't really age well. Already having been a Raimi girl, I have hope that this will be good. Also hoping that it keeps the same Raimi flare that we all know and love.

Day 18

Image
Here we go. Scariest Movie As A Kid     I have always been into scary books and movies. Even as a kid I would rather read Stephen King than the traditional childrens/young adult stuff. One movie traumatized me even to this day. But for this I will stick with a Stephen King movie that really did not seem to help my fear of clowns. It. I have never been a fan of clowns and this movie is exactly the embodiment of all that is wrong with clowns. I don't even have clowns in my haunt because I can't stand them. That may change eventually though as someone has told me I need to work past my fear. Yea. I don't think that will happen. So, if I do put a clown in my haunt, it can pole dance on the stop sign on the corner. Movie Night Title Creep      This is going to be a new experience for me as I actually have not seen this before. I watch a lot of British stuff and am always a little uneasy about the Underground. I'm not a subway person at all. Living in a co...

Day 17

Image
It's getting closer Q&A Favorite Horror/Comedy Movie     While the scary movies are always great, it's also good to laugh once in while. There's so many horror themed movies that provide a ton of laughs at the same time. So, which one is my favorite. For me it's, Tucker and Dale vs Evil. I am a fan of both Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk. Being a Browncoat (Firefly fan) makes this so much better too because there is still a tiny bit of Wash poking through in Alan Tudyk's character.  Movie Night Title Tucker and Dale vs Evil      Since we were already talking about Tucker and Dale, why don't we keep this train rolling. It's a perfect choice for tonight because, well, why not. It's funny and just the perfect blend of genres.      Given that I brought up the fact of being a Browncoat, I even brought that element into the haunt. One of my tombstones (which is still going through completion) is based on a well know quote from the show, Fire...

Day 16

Image
Keep on a truckin! Q&A Blood Or Guts     I'm not the queasy kind of chick so usually none of it bothers me. After all I have seen my fair share of both having been a vet tech. But after almost dying and having my own guts rearranged, it kind of brought out a bit of a phobia for me. I can't handle the thoughts of disemboweling. I will play up the gore but this year is more about the blood than the guts.  Movie Night Title House      This is a huge favorite for me as it was one I grew up with. Even though it plays on my fear of mirrors at one point. That scene freaked me out so much as a kid that I've never been able to get over that fear. The only mirror I have in my house is in the bathroom, that's how much I hate them. But I still love the movie to death, it's a classic. I love William Katt too so there's that perk.     One of my goals is being able to have a walk through section of my haunt where I can utilize some of the elements fro...

Day 15

Image
Coming in on rounding the halfway mark. Let's kick this off! Q&A Roasted Marshmallows or Roasted  Chestnuts      I never really developed a taste for chestnuts in any other form other than straight outta the shell. So it's always roasted marshmallows for me. Especially when squished into smores. Movie Night Title The Gate      This dang movie freaked me out so bad as a kid. Of course, at the time, my uncle was removing a tree from his yard. That really did not help matters much at all. It took me almost 20 years to go back and rewatch it. Now it's pretty much a tradition to watch during the month.     It's older movies like this that will give me ideas into what to build for next season. As it is, I am already getting a lot of plans going. But this year is still going to be out of this world.

Day 14

Image
Officially two whole weeks done! Just a tad over two weeks to go. Q&A Slasher or Psychological     There are numerous genres within the horror category but it usually comes down to these topics. They both have their perks. But between them, I usually lean towards the psychological horror. Don't get me wrong, I do love the iconic slasher movies. However, I like not being able to predict what happens. Having a twist ending or red herrings throughout the films draws me into the story a lot more. Being a writer, and a very analytical mind, I usually end up working out the mystery fairly well. So for those that can keep me guessing, they tend to rank higher for me. Movie Night Title Waxwork II: Lost in Time          This is another guilty pleasure. Apparently, I have a theme of Bruce Campbell and severed hands. It still remains one of my favorite movies just because it's not at all serious in nature, it has a superb cast, and there's an Edgar All...

Day 13

Image
Almost two weeks into the month! We're on such a roll. Q&A Favorite Remake     Remakes are such a torrid topic and to have to choose a favorite one is difficult. There's always good parts and bad parts. The Evil Dead remake wasn't horrible but as someone with a lot invested in the originals, it missed the elements that made the original the cult classic that it is. But choosing a favorite, I would go with Thirteen Ghosts. I am a huge fan of the original 13 Ghosts from back in the 50s. But I still have to look at it as more of a stand alone film than a remake. While it did pull some of the original storyline, it branched out into areas that could have really been amazing had the whole darker realm been more detailed. Plus, bonus perk is that it has an actress from Army of Darkness. So same vein there. Movie Night Title Jason X           This is one of my guilty pleasure favorite movies. I have my reasons and just one is I adore Kane Hodder. Y...

Day 12

Image
Here we go We're getting so close now! Q&A Favorite Horror Movie Scene     This is a hard question to answer as I have a reigning tie for my favorite scene. And both of them are for horror/ horror comedy flicks. So the first is from Tucker and Dale vs Evil. I love the wood chipper scene. The response after is just perfect.           My second pick is from Evil Dead 2. There is something hilarious about the hand taunting him back and him being so offended by it. It's the best. Movie Night Title Nightmare on Elm Street     This is one of the staples of October viewing. It is one of the original slashers for me. Plus I'm a big fan of the older movies and this was the era of the slasher. Plus anything that played on the subconscious and the realm that we can't control, our dreams.                                           ...

Day 11

Image
Here we are on another beautiful day Q&A Hot Cocoa or Tea     When it starts getting cooler, I begin to make all my favorite comfort foods. I'm always cold so I like things to warm me up. I am not one for hot drinks except for coffee of course. But once fall kicks in and we start to see some of our early season snow, I will start the yearly hot cocoa fixins. This entails tiny marshmallows and depending on my mood, sprinkles or other candy toppers.  Movie Night Title Invisible Man     I have brought up my love of the older classic horror movies and this is definitely one of those. It has been a while since I watched the original 1933 flick. However, I did recently watch the new 2020 movie but you miss the nostalgia of the old favorites.     I really should work up an Invisible Man display in my haunt. Who knows, maybe it will become visible next season. I still have plenty of fun left in store for this year. Just check out Insta to see what i...

Day 10

Image
Look at us already in the double digits! Q&A Favorite Pumpkin Carving     I usually do several pumpkins each year. I usually do spiderwebs and bats intermixed with some tv or movie elements. I did a really cool Ghost Rider one year, as well as a Toothless.         My favorite that I have personally carved would have to be a toss up between my sugar skull and my Cheshire Cat.  Movie Night Title Priest     This is another one that I don't really consider Halloween horror but I still love it and the casting is fabulous. And I do love vampires.      Things are starting to come together this year and my sections are beginning to fill out. Even I don't know what will happen. It could be anything. So don't forget to come back tomorrow.
